goodbye/fun facts....many people don't remember life without color televisions...in fact, the first color system was developed by John Logie Baird in 1928....but it wasn't compatible with existing black and white broadcasting. It wasn't until this date in 1953 when Raytheon, Admiral and Philharmonic became the first company to offer color sets for sale to the public but the first set to be manufactured in significant quantites (approximately 500) was made by Westinghouse. It was a 15 inch screen and sold for $1295.
