goodbye/fun facts....Juneteenth, also called Emanicpation Day
and/or Freedom day is our newest federal holiday. That means
the federal reserve, government offices (post office, dmv etc) are
closed. Banks and the stock exchange are closed today too.
Today marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston,
Texas June 19, 1865...to tell the enslaved people that they had
been freed. (months after the civil war ended btw) The word
Juneteenth is a portmanteau of June and nineteenth...and because
the 19th was a sunday this year...we observe it today.
