Louis Pasteur, the father of modern medicine, in France, on
December 27, 1822. Pasteur developed modern inoculation methods and
the pasteurization process. He and his wife had five children,
however, three died young from typhoid fever. It was the deaths of
his children and his deep religious beliefs that drove Louis to
investigate infectious diseases in order to find a cure.
